This led to her discovery of Functional Medicine. The principles of functional medicine resonated deeply with her knowledge and experience with health and healing, and she decided to advance her career as a Nurse Practitioner, focused in Functional Medicine.
In 2015 she moved to Arizona, to pursue her Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) from Arizona State University. As part of her training she completed clinical rotations at the Cleveland Clinic’s Center for Functional Medicine, as well as coursework with the Institute of Functional medicine. Dr. Ruegg worked with Mayo Clinic to complete her Doctoral research project, where she facilitated the use of comprehensive care plans to improve health promotion, and disease prevention in cancer survivors. Dr. Ruegg was awarded the Mayo Clinic’s Student research project award, and was invited to present at local and regional conferences on the subject matter.
